Sore heel

Running 1 Comment »

My left heel is playing up badly. I’m not sure what it is. I feel it more after a run, and after sleeping than during a run, but I can feel the damage I’m doing when I run if that makes any sense.

The sensation is odd. Like a burning pain that stretches from the top of my heel down. It’s flaring pain, not effected by pushing on it, or knocking it. I’ve done a bit of a trawl around the net, and it sounds like Plantar Fascitis. Sounds bloody horrible!

So, rather than do nothing I am walking, and running on soft sand without shoes.

Being straight after Christmas I’ll have to wait until next week to head to the podiatrist. My shoes are at about 5oom kms so may be time to trade up to a new pair. That’s where I had my ITB issues last time. It may be that I need new shoes more regularly.

Anyway, it’s all guesswork until I do see somebody, but it is a royal pain when I want to start the new season fresh. There is a 5km twilight run next week which I’ll run but not for anything but the hot dogs at the end!

Set out to run the 8km today, but my heel is sore and I was struggling.

Fat Grego ran the 8km in 41 and change. Great effort for a bloke who has only really just started running. He and some of his mates are joining the WAMC which will be great motivation for races.

It was a great morning. about 22 degrees and rising. Really strong easterly breeze blowing. It is a  looping double 4km course and unfortunately doesn’t follow the beach contour which would be much nicer than West Coast Highway! But, it is a nice event and a great spot for brekky afterwards.

19 minutes and 57 seconds. 4:59 min per kilometre pace.

39 of 72 runners. 7th of 8 in the M40 age group.

That’s my last run for 2008. Will do a summary at end of year.

No running this week for a couple of reasons. The first is that the back of my heel is pretty sore. It feels like a bone problem of some sort, like a sharp pain which hurts when I walk, or after I have been in bed for some reason? May have to go to the podiatrist to check that one out.

The second is that work has been really stressful. Life has certainly changed since the credit crunch and the business has slowed considerably. We are in good shape, but we needed to take quick action with costs which has meant saying goodbye to a few people which is always tough. Hopefully that’s the last change for a little bit.

City Beach Run 8km is next up Sunday 14th. Looking forward to running it with Fat Grego and his running mate Dave.
