Losing You

Music No Comments »

I love this song. Simple.

John Butler Trio - Losing You (from the excellent album Grand National)

There are things in this life I
would rather not sacrifice
You girl I cannot live without
And you know there’s no doubt that
All I mind’s losing you

I don’t mind losing sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
I’ll get plenty of rest when I am dead
But till then won’t you share my bed
Cos all I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you

And I don’t mind losing money
There’s nothing this life owes me
I’ve been given more than I can receive
But for you there’s no receipt
So all I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you

I don’t mind growing old
Losing teeth and going bald
Not as handsome as I ever was
But you love me just because
All I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you

There are things in this life I
Would rather not sacrifice
You girl I cannot live without
And you know there’s no doubt that
All I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you
All I mind’s losing you

Here’s my 2007 running stats:

  • 147 runs
  • 876 kilometres
  • Average MHR 162
  • Average AHR 141
  • Average pace 5:37
  • Average time 33:31
  • Total time 81:01:44
  • Average distance 6km
  • Average speed 10.7 kmph

In my second year where I learned about the joys of ITB, orthotics and dry needling I think this is OK. Looking forward to a year of improvement in 2008.

  2. Christchurch Run 5km - January

  3. Matilda Bay Run 10km - February

  4. Swan Twilight 5km - March

Trying to fit it all in around my half marathon training. One event a month.

Week T -1

Running No Comments »

A good week considering it was Christmas. Ran 21 kms and walked 10 with a couple of strength sessions. First race next weekend, the 5 km Burswood Twilight.

I have a slight niggle in my calf, but nothing major. My ITB seems to have backed off. Will get some new shoes in the next few weeks. Am back on the glucosamine too but mainly for the mental side of it!

It’s been a busy week but it was a great Christmas with 22 over for the big day. It was bloody hot but fun. The kids had a great few days and got WAY too many pressies.

So, this next week is launch week for the 2008 programme. I am hoping it will be a good one.  Quiet New Year celebration coming up thank god!

Mirrors

Prose/ Poetry No Comments »

We all have a mirror

Look hard and see behind

There’s someone who knows you

And can see inside your mind

The trick is connecting with that someone

It’s not an easy thing, trust me

But if you meet and make the most of time

They can love you, help you, heal you

…..believe

Scorcher!!

So, you finally get a break from work for Christmas, and you plan all of your runs for the break. Then the weather starts heating up and Christmas Day is 42 degrees celcius…

Then you wake up on Boxing Day and it’s 8am and 25 degrees heading for 43.

No running unless you have a thermal suit with internal aircon and built in Camel Bak.

Sheesh….

Week T -2

Running No Comments »

So two weeks to go until my 2008 goal chase begins. This week I had two good sessions at the gym, but dropped a couple of days of running mainly due to the staff Christmas party which was great fun, but long and boozey.

So my Thursday run didn’t eventuate. Stayed home doing Daddy Daycare with Amy and Tyler. That was fun. I think a run may have done me good, but it was a struggle all day!

Friday was the last day of work and my planned Surf Club run couldn’t happen because I had to finish the 4 days of work that I had to jam into 1. Saturday I increased my normal 3.5km to my 5.25km beach run. The beach at Mullaloo is unbelievable this time of year and is hard and flat.

For my long run today to finish the week I did 8kms along Mullaloo beach. It’s going to be 38 degrees for Christmas Day so it is heating up. Ran early and it went pretty well. No injury issues to speak of which is a nice change.

Will be moving into moderate/ consistent mode this week with 5 runs per week.

I started running in mid 2006 and ran 240kms that year running 2 races.

In 2007 I will run 800 plus kms and have run in 4 races.

In 2008 my goal is to run 1,000 plus kms and run in 8 races, including a half marathon.

Because

I am sure some people run because they want to lose weight. Some because they want to win. Some because they want to prove something. I run because it is mine. Because it is a place where I go. Because I know it is sacred…. to me.

By e e cummings :

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                    i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
